Sterno Deploys Executive Chef to Panama City with Mercy Chefs

to Aid in Hurricane Michael Rebuilding Efforts

Executive Chef Thad Smith to assist in serving hot meals to volunteer rebuilding crews.

Corona, Calif. (March 11, 2019) – Sterno Products, the name synonymous with quality and performance in portable food warming for over 100 years, today announced the deployment of its Executive Chef, Thad Smith, to Panama City this week to assist the Mercy Chefs team in serving hot, chef-prepared meals to volunteer rebuilding crews as they clean up debris and help rebuild homes from Hurricane Michael’s destruction. This is the second time Sterno has deployed Smith to Florida as part of its partnership with the non-profit relief organization, which also includes providing food warming resources.

Nearly five months after Hurricane Michael’s devastation, many families are still without essential comforts like access to a kitchen to prepare and enjoy a hot meal as a family. Now in a new phase of rebuilding, Sterno is continuing its commitment to Mercy Chefs’ panhandle efforts, by providing employee time to ensure families have access to a warm, comforting meal. Mercy Chefs is expected to serve two hot meals per day in Panama City this month to families and volunteer rebuilding crews.

“The ability of Mercy Chefs to provide hot, quality meals to so many, under such adverse conditions is truly remarkable,” said Thad Smith, Sterno Executive Chef. “Having seen the devastation first-hand, I’m honored to represent Sterno as we lend support to those in this next phase of recovery.”

Mercy Chefs is a nonprofit organization that provides professionally prepared, restaurant-quality meals to victims, volunteers and first responders in national emergencies and natural disasters. Since the partnership began, Sterno has helped the non-profit serve over 400,000 meals.

Mercy Chefs and Sterno Team Up in 2019to Provide Hot Meals for

Those in Need

Partnership has helped serve over 400,000 hot meals to victims, volunteers and first responders in natural disasters and national emergencies, with plans to extend reach

Corona, Calif. (January 17, 2019) – Sterno Products, the name synonymous with quality and performance in portable food warming for over 100 years, today announced that it has renewed its commitment to Mercy Chefs to continue its partnership in the new year. Since 2017, Sterno has helped the non-profit organization serve over 400,000 professionally prepared, restaurant-quality meals to victims, volunteers, and first responders in national emergencies and natural disasters, with a goal to continue our pledge to help serve hot meals to those in need in 2019.

Most recently, Sterno worked closely with Mercy Chefs to provide resources and employee time, including deployment of the brand’s Executive Chef Thad Smith, to support the organization in what it does best – serving hot, nutritious and comforting food to those in times of need. The efforts within the last year were on the ground after Hurricane Michael and Hurricane Florence, affecting several states across the U.S. The partnership has also helped to extend the reach of Mercy Chefs’ mobile kitchens enabling deliveries to be made in surrounding, more remote communities affected by disasters.

“Helping to serve hot, comforting food, and most importantly, making sure it is served at a food-safe temperature is our business, and we believe that no one should go without a nourishing meal in times of emergencies and disaster,” said Craig Carnes, president of Sterno Products. “We’re honored to continue our partnership with Mercy Chefs to further their mission and make an even bigger impact on communities when they need it the most.”

“At every gathering that we coordinate, Sterno is a constant, ensuring that the food we serve is at its best,” said Gary LeBlanc founder and president of Mercy Chefs. “A comforting meal with nutritious, hot food brings people together even during the toughest of times and provides a moment of normalcy. Our partnership with Sterno allows us to reach more people in need, and ultimately, allows Mercy chefs to focus on what we do best, and that's cook."
